Description: 19th Century Large Indonesian WAYANG KULIT Hide Leather Shadow Puppets Set of 2 This listing is for a pair of original 19th century Indonesian Wayang hide leather shadow puppets. The items you see in the photos are the items you will receive. All handmade from genuine hide leather, very intricately cut and detailed and handprinted in vibrant colors with gold detailing. The two figures are very similar depicting a toothy figure in traditional headdress, dress, and ornamentation. The figures are fixed to the original hand-carved bamboo holding staff with bamboo supports and a stick to move the jointed limbs. The jointed elements are hand knotted with all original components intact. The work is astonishing. Condition is listed as good with some overall signs of age and use. Some of the outer edges of the leatherwork show some damage however there are no large missing pieces. There is some overall wear and loss to the surface painting but the colors are still quite bold and present beautifully. While these figures are still fully functional with all movable elements in good condition, they are best suggested for display due to their age and fragile nature. Presentation is very impressive and this particular pair is of a significantly larger size compared to more modern pieces.
