Description: Western Europe, Switzerland, Zurich, ca. 1755 CE. A wonderful and quite impressive German language Bible, or "Biblia, das ist Die ganze Heilige Schrift Alten und Neuen Testaments," published in 1755 in Zurich by Conrad Orall and Company and rebound with a modern leather and brass cover. Containing 371 laid-paper pages and 2 illustrated plates by Johann Rudolf Holzhalb, this is the first edition of the so-called "Ulrich-Bibel," an important new version of the Zurich Bible. The text is based on the 1667 and 1724 editions; it was revised and adapted to the more wide-spread use of modern high German. Johann Caspar Ulrich (1705-1768) was in charge, under the supervision of the Church Council. This version displays beautiful red and blue painted edge decoration.
