Description: Beautiful and rare pair (2) of early to mid 19th century French Empire porcelain round chop plates or platters, c. 1800-1850. Features a hand-painted gilt design with sheaves of wheat and gilt sprays throughout with a smooth gilt rim.Pieces are unmarked. Measures approx 12 3/4" diameter x 1 5/8" high. Set is Exceptional condition free of nicks, dings or fleabites, both with minimal gilt wear, note overpaint to a few of the wheat sprays to cover imperfections from production, a common technique used during the time, please see all photos. We have a large set, originally for 65 people, that we have broken down from a 19th century house in Charleston, South Carolina. A fine addition to any home or collection.
