Description: 2+ page letter with a dateline "1855 May 12 Bugbrook, Northampton Shire, Old England" This letter is addressed to "Waukesha Post Office, Mr. Robert Philip The Younger, Waukesha, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, North America, United States." On the reverse of this letter are all the English Markings and on the obverse are all the American Markings. In the center of the reverse is a dateless "BUGBROOK" datestamp in Orange. There is no evidence of British postage being paid--no manuscript and no evidence of a stamp removed. Also on the reverse is a "WEEDON MY 24 1855" blue-green transit marking. Also on the reverse is a blue-green "LIVERPOOL MY 25 1855" receiving mark, almost intertwined with a Liverpool marking (blue-green oval) showing that it was turned over for a transatlantic voyage also on May 25th. Upon arrival in Boston, the obverse received a strike of a "BOSTON 24 BR. PACKET JUN 7" This is the top second column marking on Page 102 of the American Stampless Cover Catalog Volume II. But it is NOT the incoming "PAID" marking. The Boston Postmaster also applied a "19 Cents" for an unpaid journey to Wisconsin, hoping that the Waukesha Postmaster would collect that, apparently along with the 24, for a total of "43." Content (with most spelling corrected)--and remember I think this was written over a period of time: "1855 May 12 Bugbrook, Northampton Shire, Old England "Dear Grandson Robert Philip, and your mother & Father and sisters, these few lines come with my love you all, hoping you are well as I am at this time, thank God for it, I am well in health, but lame with the Rumites.
