Description: 2 TUCK & SONS "Write Away" Series #872. Antique Postcards 1903, 1905. For Collectors This is a nice lot of 2 antique GREETINGS POSTCARDS from the publisher TUCK & SONS from the early 1900s. These are attractive and sought after by collectors. The postcards are from the TUCK & SONS "Write Away" series # 872. The artist for this series is L. Thackeray. They look like comic sketches. They were designed in England and "Chromographed in Bavaria". These have value for collectors because of their age, artist, and TUCK as publisher. One of the postcards shows a woman pushing a child in a carriage from the back. Next to her are two men (soldiers?) walking with her. This postcard is posted with a Great Britain stamp, and there is a cancel date of 1903. The other postcard shows a man calling out to a boy who is riding the back of a horse drawn carriage. This postcard is posted with a US stamp, and a cancel date of 1905. These postcards were published by Raphael Tuck & Sons, who is an important and valued publisher. They published from 1866 through the mid 1960s in England. They first started with publishing Christmas cards printed in their native Prussia, Germany. They are noted for high quality postcards and ephemera that have a huge appeal to collectors. Tuck’s “Oilette” Series was the first VIEWS postcards published in 1903 and came in sets. These became their most popular cards, and a “standard” model for other publishers. The firm was so well respected that they had the honor of being appointed in 1894 by Queen Victoria as the "Art Publishers to their Majesties the King & Queen of the United Kingdom.” These are BETTER POSTCARD and good for a collector. The postcards will keep their value! They are sleeved and in good condition. However, please expect some creases, cuts, stains and edge wear due to their age. The photos show the postcards and the backs. The postcards are shipped in a sturdy envelope. We only ship within the USA; we do not ship internationally. USA shipping is with tracking, and we use eBay Standard Envelope mail when the value is under $20 and the weight is under 3 oz; and, we use USPS First Class mail when the value is over $20 or the weight is over 3 oz. We combine shipping whenever possible. If you purchase multiple lots, you can wait and we will send you an invoice for the combined shipping before you pay.
