Description: This vintage MCM glass Orb ashtray is a very nice and colorful addition to any collection. Made by Viking Glass in West Virginia, these pieces from the mid century feature a glossy orange persimmon color (some sellers list as Ruby Red). MCM glass was made by Viking from 1944. They closed their doors in 1984. Not sure how old this piece is. Some sellers list this piece as made in the 60's. It is a perfect item for collectors of tobacciana and MCM style. In the book Mid-Century Glass of Americana by Dean Six it is written, "Viking Glass was one of the largest and most prolific producers of American Glass that embodied the Mid-century aesthetic. The company was restructured in 1944 and renamed the Viking Glass Co due to the popular Scandinavian Glass that was encrouching the market. Viking used paper labels, not marks, to identify their products.
