Set within this vignette is a transparent capsule containing a full 1 carat of Australian sapphires, representing the treasure buried beneath the rock and sand. The obverse of the coin shows the portrait of the Queen above the clear capsule full of sapphires. Although blue sapphires are the most well-known colour, they can actually range from colourless to purple, yellow, or even greenish in colour. There is said to be a shade for every hue of the sky - morning, midday, and evening. Sapphires are graded depending on their colour, clarity, size, cut and overall quality. One of the most significant sources of sapphires is Eastern Australia, where sapphires are mined from alluvial deposits and underground workings. The coin is presented inside an elegant, luxury presentation case with a native Australian jarrah wood lid, and is protected by a full-colour outer box.
