Bernhard-Viktor Christoph-Carl von Bülow (1923-2011), better known as Vicco von Bülow or Loriot, was a German humorist whose sketches, films and parodies are among the absolute classics of German television and cinema history. In a special comedy episode of the German tv program Unsere Besten (Our best), he was ranked as the most famous German comedian ever. Featuring the character of the “Rosenkavalier” (the suitor with his rose), the obverse depicts not only one of von Bülow’s most well-known drawings but a truly iconic figure: Loriot often sketched it as a special gift alongside his autograph. The coin convincingly juxtaposes the vibrancy of the rose with the delicate lines picking out the bust in relief.
