Watercolors do not lend themselves to super-detailes, super-realistic pictures because the paint tends to run. But Beebe is able to get such fine details as the veins in the leaves, and the texture of a flower. In some of her paintings, she paints the background in a negative - leaving the subject, such as the leaves of a tree blank, and painting the spaces behind them, to bring out the subject. There is an element of this unique style here, as the leaves are very pale, emphaizing the flower, but the leaves are still very realistic. We bought a number of paintings from Beebe, mostly in the 90s, and will gradually be letting them go. Nothing like them.
