Description: !!!!!! IMPORTANT !!!!!!! PLEASE read entire description & Instructions before bidding! Measurements are in inches unless otherwise stated: #24-115, Late 18th Century-Early 19th Century Regional Dress ( Vest? / Dirndl?): This garment came out of a historical fashion collection and the only information that came with it was " Late 18th Century - Early 19th century Regional Dress." The private collection included amazing clothing from the early 18th Century through the late 19th century. I am not sure of the correct word to call the garment. It is not a corset. It was made to wear on the outside. I have seen women's garments from the 1860's that were made of silk and laced up the front called weskits. I have seen beautifully quilted and embroidered jumps from the 18th century. Since this was listed as regional dress I wondered if it would be classified as a dirndl; however, when I look in the dictionary under dirndl it is defined as dress. Never-the-less, since I have collected antique clothing for over 35 years what I know from experience is that this is an amazing textile. Enlarge the photos and you can see individual threads. The embroidery in the back is insane. Notice the little gold beads that were sewn into the design. Many of the threads are metallic. Take a look at the amazing cotton fabric lining. The straps that come from the back are not finished. I have them pinned to the front straps. It doesn't look like anything has been added or subtracted. It looks all original. The bust is 43 inches and the waist is 38 inches. It is 12 inches from the top neckline to the bottom of the waist. From looking at original illustrations of early women's regional dress, this would have been laced over a very full linen or cotton blouse. The skirt itself would have been full and decorated beautifully as well. I laced the garment together with modern ribbon so you could see what it would have looked like. I have been told that it might have been laced with silk ribbon, braided cording or possibly leather. The garment is European. Bid will start at $100.00. =============================================================When emailing with inquiries, please include the ITEM NAME and ITEM NUMBER.
