Yellowed pages, but otherwise in excellent condition.Many recipes for baking with yeast: breads, rolls, coffee cake, root beer making, buckwheat cakes, doughnuts, Parker House rolls...3) The Metropolitan Cook Book / from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (not dated, looks to be 1920s)64 pages, 7.5x5.3". Staple binding in perfect shape. Yellowing, spots, and wear typical for 100 yr old pamphlet, but otherwise in tight good condition with no tears. Illustrations on cover only.This pamphlet is a window to the 1920s housewife cookery basics. In addition to the dozens of typical recipes for baking, desserts, meats, fruit, soups, vegetables, salads, biscuits, puddings, etc,.. there are some truly historical oddities among the recipes.There is a section titled "Invalid Cookery" for preparing meals for invalids and sick or old patients. This section is amazing, with instructions for cooking things like: Albumen drinks, soft custard, coddled eggs, Irish Moss Lemonade(!), Mutton broth, rice gruel, Broiled sweetbread, raw beef sandwich(!), Peptonized milk, etc. I can imagine throwing a party where each guest prepares one or two interesting dishes from these vintage cookbooks.
