Description: Here is an opportunity to own three prints from the original publication of the Transactions of the Horticultural Society of London, circa 1820. The prints were created from steel plate engravings, and also used mezzotint and hand coloring. The prints were further enhanced with gum arabic so the fruits almost glisten even now, 200+ years later. This set of three includes: the Esperione Grape, the Black Eagle Cherry and the Acton Scott Peach. Each print references the volume and plate number in the upper right corner, and one has part of the original paper watermark visible in the bottom left corner. The Transactions of the Horticultural Society of London contained some of the most beautifully illustrated and vibrant botanical and fruit prints in botanical illustration. Many prominent artists of the day contributed to the work, including W. Hooker, Mrs. Withers, J. Robertson, B. Cotton, E. Smith and more. The prints measures approximately 9 inches by 11.5 inches. They will be shipped in a box to avoid damage in transit. These items are antique and sold as is and as found. They may show wear, fading, scratches, stains , creases, original imperfections and/or other forms of damage. I note all 3 prints have some discoloration and damage to edges, particularly where they were previously bound, and that the Peach print has water damage to right side and bottom as shown in photos. Examine photos carefully as they are part of the description. Imperfections were factored into pricing. No returns or refunds.
