3 Superb EXTINCT Bees with Botanical in Dominican Amber Fossil Gemstone

Description: This fully polished amber fossil from the mines in the Dominican Republic contains a fascinating find: a group of 3 well-preserved stingless bees (genus Proplebeia, species dominicana, now extinct) with a botanical (possibly a small leaf) from an ancient tropical forest. The amber fossil itself has a rich orange color and exhibits resin flow layering.These bees were once part of an ancient, tropical forest and are no longer seen in the Dominican Republic or Haiti as this particular species is confirmed to be extinct. Stingless bees are the most common bee found in Dominican amber. They would collect resin from the amber tree (Hymenaea protera, now extinct) in order to build their nests. Hence, they would often get caught. Rarely, stingless bees can be found with resin balls on their hind legs. I very rarely come across bees with resin.This piece originated from the Dominican Republic. The piece itself weighs 2.4 grams and has approximate dimensions of 1.6 cm length, 1.4 cm width, and 1.1 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is approximately 1 inch. The saltwater test claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink.However, many amber sources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical (plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are more dense than saltwater and so sink.
