Speaking of history, here is a bit of it about Kamm's Brewery from the Berrien History Blog:The 100 Center: Does Adolph Kamm still haunt his own beer plant?The Kamm & Schellinger plant at the 100 Center building in Mishawaka, Indiana dates back to 1853 when the brewery was operated by John Wagner, who sold it to Adolph Kamm and Clemens Dick in 1870. A decade later, Clemens sold back his share and Adolph took in his brother in law, Nicholas Schellinger into the operation. The firm changed names to the Kamm & Schellinger Brewing Company. The first picture shows a couple of their Studebaker beer trucks. Nciholas Schellinger died in 1918. During prohibition, like a lot of other breweries, K&S went into the production of selling soft drinks. Adolph died in 1930. The company went out of business in 1951. The building was re-used as a mix of other retailers in the 1960's. One of those nearby businesses is the Hacienda, located down Center Street at the corner of Lincoln Way West. The restaurant is rumored to be haunted by Adolph Kamm, himself. According to a 1992 article in the South Bend Tribune, Hacienda administrated assistant, Jo Sheldon, said she and other employees had seen the ghost of Mr. Kamm and fallen victim to his "pranks" like unplugging the vacuum cleaners and turning the lights off and on. He was usually spotted wearing blue overalls or a Civil War type of uniform, and the theory was that he lived on the third floor attic of the restaurant. Sheldon's theory was that he was guarding over his family's property. Kamm family members were skeptical, however. They said that Adolph wouldn't dress that way and he was known as a serious, gentle man while alive.
