Description: Presented is a fine quality set of 6 Georgian English sterling silver place, dessert, or soup spoons. The spoons have a very traditional Hanoverian design, complete with a pronounced upward turn at the end of the handle and a rat tail design on the back of the bowl. The spoons are quite sturdy and well made, with a nice feeling of weight, made from thick heavy silver throughout and quite resistant to bending. Each spoon is monogrammed on the handle with 'E P'. Each piece is hallmarked on the underside with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter L for 1726, and the maker's mark for Samuel Hitchcock. As the photo shows, the marks are fairly crisp. The spoons are in excellent overall condition, especially accounting for age. There are a couple of slight dings to the bowls. There is some surface wear throughout, but nothing excessive, and the spoons could easily be buffed to a high mirror finish. We believe the monogram on the handles is not original and an older monogram may have been removed, but the silver is very thick and it's nearly impossible to tell. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, and no repairs. Each spoon is about 8 inches long. The pair of spoons weighs 410.4 grams or 14.4 regular ounces. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
