Description: I have other military items listed. I will combine shipping when possible. Here is a nice lot of photos that I think are the same soldier (transferred to the 8th Air Force after WWII). They were together when I bought them. The colorized one is 90% of the money in this lot. You seldom see photos from WWII of soldiers wearing the Legion of Merit medal. It was introduced in 1942 and were mainly awarded after WWII. The only photo with writing on the back is the small one and I have that pictured. That one is from 1956 when he was stationed in Japan. I don't know the name other than "Jimmie". Here is info from another website, but it explains how tough the Legion of Merit is to find in WWII: From 1942 to 1944, the Legion of Merit was awarded for a wide range of achievements, because it was the only decoration below the Silver Star, awarded for combat valor, and the Distinguished Service Medal for meritorious noncombat service. That was, until the Bronze Star Medal was established in 1944.After World War II, the Legion of Merit was awarded almost exclusively to senior officers in the rank Lieutenant Colonel (Army, Marine Corps and Air Force) or Commander (Navy and Coast Guard) (O-5), and above.
