Number of Pages: 1016 Condition notes: This copy is for sale at a special low price because there is some external staining/discoloration from a spill (coffee or tea?). As you can see from the photos, two edges of the book caught the spill and the splotches are pretty evident in the photos.Also in the photos you can see that the front endpaper got a fair dousing and warped a little, and the title page caught a bit, but the insides of the book where the text is, got away almost perfectly clean.In a couple of places, as illustrated by the last two pages, there is some tiny discoloration that seeped into the edge, but the text is nowhere affected at all. And there are no pen/pencil/highlighter markings anywhere; text is clean. How much this book normally goes for you can see from other listings. For a reading copy, you won't get a lower than this. Author Notes: Edwin A. Cranston (1932-2021) was Professor of Japanese literature at Harvard University. My books will have some evidence of having been handled or read, what are called 'reading copies' by collectors. I do not represent any books as having collectible value. Books may have previous owners' data written inside cover or on flyleaf. Some will be old with age-related discolorations or slight bending; none are cracked, falling apart, have torn or missing pages or writing or underlining inside pages UNLESS I mention it in "Condition Notes."
