Description: LINCOLN'S PHOTO IS RUBBED OFF OR MISSING 1860 original ferrotype photo campaign token with the almost intact photo of Lincoln's first vice president. This was the first election that campaign tokens displayed the actual image of the candidates. The Lincoln-Hamlin Republican party token was almost identical to the Johnson-Douglas Democratic campaign token in this way. These must have been expensive to produce, but the parties involved in the election definitely saw the importance of this most famous election in US history and poured money into the making of these picture tokens. In the following years up until about 1892, campaign tokens went back to plain brass/copper or white metal coins with raised relief as they had been from 1824 on. Very few of these original campaign tokens from 1860 have survived throughout the years. A nicely preserved Lincoln ferrotype token can easily cost over $1000 while the Democratic party version about half that. This token is damaged. Shipped with USPS First Class Package. Satisfaction guaranteed with 14 day no questions return policy. Buyer pays return shipping. Authenticity guaranteed forever
