Description: ACKERMANSION MEMORIES #8 edited by James Van Hise (March 2019) 8 1/2 x 11, 80 pages. Fanzine format. Side-stapled. Brand new. 5 pages in color. Forrest J Ackerman was one of the earliest contributors to Science Fiction fandom and remained active throughout his life. While most people are familiar with his work in Famous Monsters and Spacemen, much of his other work appeared in fanzines and magazines now long out of print. This issue reprints obscure material by Forrest Ackerman as well as material by and about Ray Bradbury, whom Forry first befriended in 1938. I have been collecting old fanzines for years, especially issues with material by and about Forrest Ackerman (whom I first met in 1982 and knew for the rest of his life as I visited the Ackermansion many times). This is the eighth issue since I started editing and publishing these in 2015. Back issues #1-7 are available individually and in sets. Material in this issue by (and sometimes about) Forrest J Ackerman includes: 1) OUT OF THIS WORLD AGENCY - (1950s advertisement for the Ackerman Agency) 2) NO. 1 FAN: THE MONSTER MAN (Cosmos, May 1969) 3) ENCHANTED FOREST (Polaris, Spring 1980) 4) TIDE PROJECTILE (Amazing Stories, September 1927) 5) FJA (Gosh magazine) 6) KING KONG review (Picturegoer magazine Sept. 9, 1933) 7) FAN-TASTIC by Ray Bradbury (Shangri-La #2, 1940) 8) GUIDE TO RAY BRADBURY POSTHUMOUS TRIBUTES 9) MONSTERS ARE MY BUSINESS (Argosy, March 1959) (Feature on Ray Harryhausen, color reprint) 10) 1940 NEW YORK WORLD’S FAIR ROBOT (Life, 1998) 11) AIRSHIP OF TOMORROW (Electrical Experimenter, March 1920) 12) PRESENTING RONALD CLYNE (Fapa #1, September 1943) 13) ATOMICON REPORT by FJA (Shangri L’Affaires #28, 1946) 14) DEADLINE JOB by Kelly Freas (Science Fiction Times #278, 1957) 15) “THE PULPS” review by Harlan Ellison (LA Times, 4/25/71) 16) IF by Theodore Sturgeon (NY Times Book Review, 3/5/72) 17) THE GREAT EXCLUSION ACT OF 1939 by Dave Kyle (Mimosa #6 - 1989) 18) THAT MOMENT OF HORROR by Henry Kuttner (Ad Astra January 1940) 19) THE HIGH-FLIER THAT FLOPPED (Cosmos, June 1969) 20) BRADBURY READS BRADBURY (1975 album liner notes) 21) SCIENCE FICTION SECOND WIND (Saturday Review, 11/27/54) 22) BRAVE NUDE WORLD by Forrest J Ackerman (American Nudist, September 1961) 23) 19 page transcript of the ADDRESS BY CHRISTOPHER LEE at the FANTASY FILM CONVENTION (November 25, 1972) Buyer pays for priority mail or media mail (mailed in a box).
