Description: Acoma Pottery New Mexico Horse Hair Pot Vase. By Gary Yellow Corn Louis. 2005.Almost 6 1/2" tall; 3 1/2" across top opening; main body width is about 6 1/2". Horse Hair pottery has its unique pattern of squiggly lines and smudgy/cloudy coloring on the surface from actual horse hair being scattered on the pieces before they are fired in a kiln. The hair burns and leaves these unusual black lines, making each piece unique! After the piece is fired, the artist then hand etches the designs into the surface. ISSUES: This piece has a number of surface scrapes and scratches where the finish has been removed so the white pottery base shows. It is still a very nice piece of pottery, and displays very well.
