This vintage lock was produced in the third quarter of 1948 by Adlake (Adams & Westlake) in Elkhart, Indiana located in the Midwest United States. If you look closely, you can make out the number 348 beside the keyhole on this lock. This is a date code from the Adlake Company. Based on their date code system, the first numeral will be from 1 to 4 representing the quarter of the year in which the lock was produced. The second and third numbers are the year. Accordingly, 348 means this lock was made during the third quarter of the year 1948.
