Description: QUARTZ var CHALCEDONY (Grape Agate or Grape Chalcedony): Mamuju, Sulawesi Barat Prov., Sulawesi, Indonesia. Dimensions: 8.0 x 5.7 x 3.5cm, small cabinet. A beautiful specimen of Grape Chalcedony from the 2018 finds in Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. This piece is unusual because of its size class and and its great color. Most pieces you see of this material are large, multi-hued, and often light colored, decorator pieces and rarely do you see attractive small cabinet pieces that will fit easily into your display cabinet like this one! It really is an exceptional specimen for a number of reasons: color saturation, satiny luster, shapely form, lack of damage and can be displayed from either side! Please refer to the photos as both sides of this piece are fantastic! Two thin, parallel septa of matrix traverse the interior of the piece that provided additional surfaces upon which the Chalcedony could form and also adds great three-dimensionality and depth to the piece! Tons of this material have been mined at this locality, however, very little would qualify as really good Chalcedony specimens for a collector and this piece is much more than "representative"! This Grape Agate piece has sculptural form with its mini, purple "grapes" that shimmer due to the satin luster of the individual spheres. This is an excellent displayable specimen for a mineral collection rather than just being a decorative chunk of purple Quartz like most of the rest. Complete all around!
