Description: Featuring a traditional Asante Kings stool. It is hand carved from one large single piece of wood. These may also be referred to as a Chief Stool. The Asante, also known as Ashanti in English, are part of the Akan ethnic group and are native to the Ashanti Region of modern-day Ghana. This stool was purchased from Ghana in the mid 1950's. The Kings Stool is important in the Akan tradition because it highlights the sense of community, social and political life, tradition and serving as a symbol of unity and solidarity, believed to bind the souls of their kinsmen together in both the physical and metaphysical worlds. The original stool is known as the golden stool. It is believed to have floated from the sky and landed in the lap of the then King Osei-tutu in the 17th century. The Golden Stool holds the soul or sumsum of the Ashanti Kingdom and without it the soul of the Ashanti people would be lost forever. This is truly a beautiful piece, both culturally and aesthetically. Measurements:Length- 24''Width- 13.5''Height- 18''**Please note…The item featured is not new…it is old and therefore has some of the imperfections that are expected with age and history. The wood has a wonderful patina. There are scratches on the piece from natural wear. A large crack can be seen on one side, however, because it's carved from one solid piece of wood, the stool is still very structurally sound. The flaws, in this case of this stool, simply make the piece more culturally fascinating. Please inspect all the photos carefully prior to purchase to ensure item meets expectations. Thank you!**
