Description: Alligator Campaign Hat, belonged to Pvt. John Garbrey, Co. E, 1st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment, National Guard (1898). Resident of Philadelphia, Pa. Enrolled on May 10, 1898, and Mustered In on May 11, 1898. Deserted on July 7, 1898, at Camp George H. Thomas, Chickamauga Park, Georgia, one of only eight men from the regiment who deserted. The hat was acquired from Maryland collector C. Edward Kemp in 2014 and resold by Great War Militaria in Chambersburg, Pa. in 2021.
