Description: ALLIGATOR STEW – Welcome To Monticello…Live!!! Hogleg Records 0005. FACTORY SEALED NEW CD. Originally issued in 2003. This edition issued in 2015. 11 live tracks plus 4 studio tracks. MEMBERS: Gary Jeffries, Chris Turbis, Doug Richardson, TC Markle, and John Andrews. Studio Tracks: Four Winds, The Heist, Missin/ My Friends (LA Vers.), and Far Beneath The Rubble. DESCRIPTION: Despite its year of release, this is classic Southern Rock, hard and swampy, with dual slide guitar leads. Except for the CCR and Seger covers this is all original material. Alligator Stew are based out of Los Angeles, where they remain a very highly rated club band. However, they have played extensively around the mid-west, (I’m guessing there is some familial connection, but I didn’t have time to research that aspect of the band’s history) which brings us to the recording on offer. This sizzling hot live set was recorded at the Roof Lounge, in Monticello, Indiana. A picture on the back of the tray card shows a marquee/sign with the band’s name and date of June 30th; I’m assuming the year was 2003 (as per the year of the original release of this album). Monticello is a bit of a blue collar party town with its key draw being the Indiana Beach Amusement Park (now tagged as Resort), that’s been around for years. Located in northwest Indiana, they use to advertise on Chicagoland TV and radio back in the 60s and, before the interstates were completed, was along the route my family would take to visit my grandmother in West Virginia. The band is definitely stoked for this show, this probably wasn’t the first time they played the Roof Lounge as the crowd is equally stoked (or stewed, as the case may be). This is old school, for fans of Skynyrd, Outlaws, John Fogerty, Charlie Daniels, and early Steve Earle, to name but a few influences. Also included are 4 studio recordings. Guitarist and lead vocalist Gary Jeffries, who is an exceptional vocal talent, was signed to Virgin Records in 1991 with a heavy metal/hard rock group called Asphalt Ballet. Music from the heart and soul delivered with passion. SIDE BAR: You regional music buffs should take note of the artist whose name is listed on the marquee sign below Alligator Stew’s appearance date on the back of the tray card. Duke Tumatoe (and the All-Star Frogs) based out of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois and later Chicago has been on the music scene since the late 60s (I’ve seen him more times than I can count). Duke (nee William “Bill" Severen Fiorio) is a founding member and lead guitarist of what became known to the world as REO Speedwagon, leaving the group in 1969; he, to continue with the blues and they, to follow the winds of rock. Starting with the album Red Pepper Hot (1976), Duke has issued some 15 albums and has resided in Indianapolis, Indiana since 1980, still playing the blues. Check him out. It is not unusual to find small/tiny imperfections on the play side of the CD disc, especially on European manufactured CDs; these small imperfections do no affect the playback of the disc. Also an unsealed jewel case may show light signs of warehouse/transit storage wear on the outer surface of the jewel case. If an unsealed jewel case is received by me broken, it will be replaced with a new jewel case before shipping; sealed CDs received with minor cracked/damaged jewel cases will be noted as such in the item’s description and will be shipped as is. ABBREVIATIONS: SS or SLD: Still Sealed or Sealed. Short abbreviation that will appear in the title line of my listings. This item is new and unplayed. Also appears in the listing description as Sealed CD or Factory Sealed CD. NEW CD: This item is new and unplayed, but was received from a supplier without being shrink wrapped or cellophane wrapped; more common on imports but also many of the smaller independent US labels do not seal their CDs; some have it both ways (for which I have no prior knowledge of or choice when placing my orders). Other companies use resealable clear outer sleeves which are used on some import and domestic releases. If I receive an item this way it will be shipped as I received it and not opened up. Items received unwrapped are placed inside of a resealable clear outer mylar sleeve at the time they are received. GFC or GF: Gate fold cover, refers to a style of mini-jacket CDs. S/T: Self-Titled 2/1: This denotes that 2 albums are on 1 single CD. RE: Reissue. Variations from the original pressing will be noted when known. REMAST: Remastered. More specific sourcing will follow within the item’s description when available. OOP: Out Of Print. MIX: This sometimes appears in my title line and refers to a group's/artist's music having a mix of styles such a rock track with jazz then followed by a straight rock track followed by a psych rock track, etc., as opposed to a blues album with the album's tracks having predominantly one style. XT, XTKS, or #XTKS: Usually in lower case type as part of the title line, denotes bonus tracks on this release (extra track, extra tracks, or the number of extra tracks). ULC, LRC, etc.: Upper Left Corner, Lower Right Corner, etc. used in referencing the area of a defect or blemish to the jewel case or packaging.
