Home grown naturally using regenerative growing methods with lots of love and zero chemicals, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers. The seeds are from our most recent harvest and are fresh viable seeds ready to sow.Growing Info & TipsNative to the southern US, Beautyberry is recognized by its clusters of bright purple berries that begin to ripen at the end of summer into fall. Itβs an attractive perennial shrub that grows well in zones 7-11 reaching a mature size of 3-6 ft. It grows well in full fun to part shade and as a native grows well in the native soil with little to no care. Just prune as needed to maintain shape. It in the spring it blooms clusters of little pink flowers from which the berries grow. Come fall the berries are a wonderful food source for many bird species. The berries can also be made into yummy jams and the leaves used for insect repellant. It can often be found growing wild and is just a beautiful native addition to have growing in your yard. For Sowing the Beautyberry Seeds:Sow seeds after the chance of frost has past. Soak the seeds in water for 24 hours before sowing to soften the seed coat. Seeds can be planted directly in the ground or in pots or seed starting trays. Plant the seeds close to the surface, around 1/8th of an inch deep (very lightly covering them) in pre-moistened potting mix. They need light to germinate, so do not bury them deep- just a sprinkle of soil on top. Keep the soil moist but well drained. Germination can take up to 3 months so be patient. Beauty berry grows best in full sun to part shade and is a moderate grower once it get going, growing 1-2 ft each year, reaching 3-6ft at maturity.UsesThe berries can be cooked into a yummy jam or brewed for tea. The leaves are helpful in repelling mosquitos and ticks, simply by rubbing a leaf on your skin or brew some leaves into a spray, or make a tincture or salve to apply. The leaves, bark and root can also be used in varies ways as an herbal ally. I enjoy drying some branches with berries on them for flower arranging too. I am always sure to leave plenty of berries for the birds to enjoy too, as itβs a great food source for them. Please Note: All of my seeds are fresh and viable. Growing plants from seeds is fun! The majority of the time it is a success but sometimes itβs not. This just is the way it is with nature and gardening. I hope you experience success with all the seeds, however because I am not there to plant them, I cannot be responsible for germination failure due to improper planting or climate conditions etc. I do include a detailed note with planting advice with your order to help ensure your success.
