Description: This decoy is an American Coot and was one of the earliest carvings by Lane Brigham who at the time lived in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Carved in 1996 and painted with acrylics in a style similar to that of many Cajun carvers. Coots are common in South Louisiana and some cooks make a gumbo from what otherwise is usually discarded as not tasty. Properly done it can be delicious (in this writers' view). Many other carvings came from the knife of this carver and many of them won awards at both local and regional competitions.
