Description: Made by American Microphone at either their Los Angeles or Pasadena, California plants during the 1940sand 1950s, the FL3 is highly sought after by collectors for their classic styling, flat-black finish and low production numbers. Seldom scene on ebay, or anywhere else for that matter. The stem surfaces on this stand show no dents and only a few scratches and the chrome leather cushioned, positive-lock control clutch works as it should with a firm hold and easy rotation. The classic three-leg base is without flaws, the original rubber shock-absorbing floor grips are solid and without cracks. The FL3 spans from 40 inches to 72 inches off the floor, taller than most vintage floor stands. The FL3 was a studio stand finished in black to reduce harsh glare common with chrome stems, and the black finish and styling was also a favorite of high-end night clubs of the time for its dramatic stage presence. The stem sections are lightweight aluminum and this one still has the original American Microphone label attached. The heavy, eight-pound cast iron base is without rust, and measures a stable 15 inches across, able to support securely the heaviest of microphones. NOTE: SHIPPING: I have found over the years that shipping a floor stand in one package not only adds to the overall cost incurred when shipping an “odd” shaped parcel, but also subjects the contents to damage that can occur when transporting heavy, unbalanced, non-standard shaped packages. For domestic shipping I will ship the stem and base separately at no cost to the buyer. This two-box shipping combination seems to offer the best method, overall, to safely transport a floor stand. International buyers, please contact me for a shipping estimate before bidding.
