Description: "Amtrak Car Spotter" is subtitled "A Guide to the New Amtrak Car Numbers and Pre-Amtrak Histories of Amtrak's 1262 Cars". The Introduction states, "This book is a guide to the passenger cars on the Amtrak roster. As these cars are sent to shops for renovation, all former railroad identification will be removed from the car's exterior and a new Amtrak car number applied. Car names will generally be retained... This book lists the cars in numerical order by new Amtrak car number. After each new number is listed the former owning railroad and the name and/or number the car had when it was acquired by Amtrak. Then follow any preceding names, numbers or owners, back to the time of construction... This is not an official Amtrak publication, but this car spotter could not have been made available to railfans without the cooperation we received from Amtrak officials." This book is 56 pages of lists. The pictures show the actual front and back of the book, the two Contents pages and five other pages about every ten pages. Ebay collects sales tax for some states. We are honored to be the appointed caretakers of 3 steam locomotives owned by the city of Portland, Oregon. The collection includes the world famous SP 4449 Daylight locomotive, originally restored to pull the American Freedom Train in 1975-76. The magnificent SP&S 700 is also an operational 4-8-4 which came back to life in 1990. They are joined by their little sister, the OR&N 197, a Pacific 4-6-2 which will steam up again in about 1 year. All three are located at the new Oregon Rail Heritage Center, a working engine house with a turntable, allowing public access to the locomotives. We receive no support from the city, but rely solely upon volunteers and donations.
