Description: OFFERED ... vintage reproduction on solid wood of "Nova Totivs Terrarvm Orbis Geographica AC Hydrographica Tabvla" by Henricus Hondius, Dutch cartographer, the original of which was published circa 1630. Features include inset portraits of Julius Caesar, Claudius Ptolemy, Gerardus Mercator, and Jodocus Honcius. Also surrounding the map are illustrations depicting the four elements: earth, fire, air, and water. Wonderful graphics. On the back of the print is an original card, I believe from a still-existing company, "Arts Press" located in Los Angeles, California. The information on the card reads, "Hydrographica Tabula - Old maps tell us much about the areas in which people travelled in ancient times. Maps have been used ever since man began trading in other territories. People without a written language, such as the Eskimos and the Polynesians, often used map aids when travelling from place to place. Antiquity Collection ... Los Angeles, Calif." There are some minor scuffs/scratches/surface wear. The last photograph shows an area which has appearance of being creased, but I believe it was the condition of the reproduction piece that was put on wood, because the area is smooth. The photo was also taken under different lighting and with flash. The map has a nice patina. It measures approximately 33" x 23" x 1"; ready to hang. WEIGHT: 10 pounds (without packaging). Estimate package to weigh 16 pounds ... 36" x 26" x 3".
