According to Annie, This rich, deep yellow Chalk Paint® colour was inspired by the town of Arles in the south of France where a wide range of earthy yellow ochres are dug straight from the ground. It’s a natural rustic colour as well as a modern colour. Arles- a Mediterranean Golden Yellow- the color of a sunflower. the color of a sunflower. That golden yellow. Often a yellow described as being either Mediterranean or Tuscan colors, Native American, Americana, primitive, rustic. Again- it is the rich yellow of the petals from a golden sunflower! The Purple Painted Lady loves this color paired with Provence or Aubusson Blue or Old Violet - when Dark Wax is applied to all - and it will be heaven! (Coat with clear wax first and let dry - then apply dark wax) The sample board shown has 2 coats of Arles, then one coat of clear wax across the whole piece - let dry, and then dark wax only over half. Beautiful!I had posted a custom Coral recipe on my Facebook page earlier in 2013 using Barcelona Orange as one of the components to create it, but I had a customer write me who already owned Arles and was hoping we could help her as so she could save on money and use the Chalk Paint® she already owned, versus having to buy the Orange too. So- below is a 2nd option for a custom Coral using approximately 4 parts Emperor's Silk, 2 parts Arles and 1 part Old White. I hope that this was helpful. OPENING THE LIDS OFF THE LITRE: Watch this video to show you how best to open so you do not bend the lids. VERY IMPORTANT INFO REGRADING OPENING THE LIDS ON THE LITRES:To remove the lid on the liters, gently wedge a paint can opener or a blunt object, like the end of a spoon's handle under the lid. Gently and patiently, go all the around the lids edge by turning the paint can 360 degrees. This will gently lift the lid without denting it. Besides the change of more paint in the container - the liter's lids are just a little different and take a softer hand to open and close. Use a paint can opener and wiggle it around the lid completely. You will find the paint in the liters will be slightly thicker- here are some tips when using: 1. A light touch with your brush is needed. It spreads much more easily than trying to push the paint around. Using an Annie Sloan paint brush is important. 2. A spray bottle will be your new best friend and you may find it will really help if you are painting in a linear motion. 3. Use your spray bottle to wet sand with Annie's sanding pads. You will find that it distresses the paint beautifully! Don’t forget when purchasing Chalk Paint® Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan- to consider purchasing her Clear Wax also. Annie’s paint and wax were created to partner perfectly together! The paint itself will harden but the wax will truly protect it! The wax does completely harden and it becomes hard and is water repellent. It is a wonderful protective finish that you can buff once dry- to the sheen you desire.
