The first volume has somewhat wider margins than the three uniformly bound following volumes.4 volumes, 1 volume half calf with speckled boards, five raised bands and gilt decoration to the spine, the title gilt to a title ticket, the remaining 3 volumes uniform half calf with marbled boards, gilt-lettered title and volume ticket to the spine, gilt ruling to the spine.Cover condition: Good: the head of the spine of volume 1 chipped, split to the head of the spine of volume 2, corners bumped and a little worn, boards scuffed. Inside condition: Very good: minimally foxed, and stained, volume 2 with a dampstain in the margin of pp. 53-70 (affecting the plate opp. page 70), lacks the three maps (otherwise complete).Arend Fokke Simonsz (1755-1812) was a Dutch author and literary figure. He wrote sharply critical humorous works. Although he is mainly known for these popular literary works, he ran a publishing house for a while, and was a member of numerous literary societies.
