Victorian paper scraps were initially used in German bakeries to decorate cakes and confirmation wafers. They went on to use them on biscuits and cakes for the festive season and people began to collect them. This grew into a demand for them for party cakes and all occasions. Colourful paper scraps and Dresden foil die cuts were also used to embellish greeting cards, valentines, and ornaments to celebrate important holidays, such as Christmas and Easter. The most expensive Victorian era scraps were finished with gold leaf. Description:Other vintage Christmas & more similar real Victorian Die Cuts currently listed - Amazing OLD Estate Find (NOS) - We tested these scarce GUARANTEED antique beauties & they solidly stood the chemical test at 24K yellow gold leaf, which is the highest possible gold content - These authentic scarce Victorian era c.1800's diecuts feature the sharpest details & real gold leaf since they were made when the original dies were fresh & not worn from long years of use & exposure to two World Wars! The reproductions that are commonly found today are no where near the sharp detail & quality of these originals! And some of the examples we will be listing are no longer available even as repros since the dies are possibly worn out or long-lost forever. Modern repros are just made from faux gold or silver colored foil & much of the original details are lost from over use or repairs on whatever is extant of the old dies/equipment.
