Description: Antique dated 1918 trench art handcarved Russian war prisoner made in Hungary during World War I. Wooden snuff, cigarette, cigar, tobacco or other casket box in German Black Forest style. Perfect vaulted form design. Decorated with a pair of a peacock bird. It bears a name of the lager: Somorja (now in Slovakia) in cyril. Inside it hides the name of the prisoner too: Ivan Lusenkov. It is almost invisible, but it was the only hope to give news to his family, that he is still alive! Once the lid was glued together and the hinges has small wood pieces broke off. Small crack on the right side. Easy to prepare, but I prefer to keep in original condition. Examine the photos please! There was an organised craft industry in internment and prisoner-of-war camps. Many prisoners made decorative boxes which were then sold for small profit. The quality and style of trinket box varied upon the skills of the men and the materials available. Dimensions 13 x 9,8 x 2,5 cms Priority registered 3-8 weeks worldwide.
