Description: A colourful floral design is hand painted on this scarce/rare antique Italian faience/majolica footed and reticulated comport. It has a rare raised, shaped and pierced rim. It is also hand painted and pierced on the 4" tall rococo designed footed base. It is made of majolica (faience/faenza) pottery with The classic "tin" glaze of this period and has bright hand painted floral enamel paintings. It has an overall fine crackle to the glaze which was normal with this type of glaze. I have seen plates offered but it is very rare to see a comport of this type and one in such perfect condition! It is signed with the raised seal which has the impressed name "Bassano" under an impressed picture of the Bassano factory. The Bassano faience works started in Venice, Italy in the 1600s. This piece dates around 1850-1899 It is in perfect condition -no flaws. It is rare to find one of these in this perfect condition due to the fact that this type of glaze is often chipped. This one is perfect!Size: 8 1/2" round and 4" tall. All special items are triple wrapped, double boxed, tracked and insured for delivery to you.
