Description: ORIGINAL c1891-1896 SS THORP & CO 20 FULTON ST NEW YORK 44 STAR FLAG ADVERTISING WOODCUT ON TISSUE PAPER PUBLISHED BY DENNISON MANUFACTURING COMPANY This is just a great original piece. This is one of those pieces that I have debated keeping in my personal collection but with only so much wall space, I can only keep so much. I really think this is one of the better pieces of Americana I have had. This is an incredible flag advertisement for a flag retailer. The flag is a 44 star flag that was used from 1891-1896. A wonderful color woodcut in blue and red on tissue paper with the black over printing measuring 12 x 16 3/4 inches. The chart at the top of the piece gives pricing and sizes of the flags that are available at the retailer. The bottom chart has the flag poles that are available. And the Retailers name and location in New York in bold along the bottom margin. Dennison Mfg publication line just below the stars. The flag is in excellent condition particularly for the age and the fact that it is printed on such thin paper. It has a contemporary double archival over matte that I have not removed to see what it looks like underneath. A wonderful red and blue wood frame is the perfect compliment and just makes an outstanding presentation. I have had one of these flags by Dennison in the past but it was not printed with any advertisement. I have seen a couple other advertisements but they were mostly for restaurants or general stores.
