Description: Harmoney banjo Chicago model. Im told it's worth between $150 & $200.. If anyone can narrow down either the model or year I would greatly appreciate it Thanks, it plays great! Avery kind and knowledgeable ebay memeber provided me with this awesome information. Harmoney Banjo 1950?As you requested information about your banjo, here you go; Your Chicago banjo was not made by H.C. Nelson. Nelson banjos were made by JB Schall in the 1890's. The instrument you have is a Chicago banjo. The rim design, being a one piece plastic unit, was marketed by the Harmony company under their Resotone trademark, starting in the early 1950's. When Harmony went bankrupt in 1976, Fred Gretsch introduced a similar instrument. He bought rims from Harmony's supplier, but made his own necks that were of a significantly lower quality than the Harmony necks. Chicago banjos disappeared from the new instrument market place in the mid 1980's. At their peak production, there were about 500 a week being made. Easy enough to research their value, but I see them selling for $100 to $200. I hope my information is helpful.
