Description: Stunning, substantial and ornate antique 9ct yellow gold brooch collet-set with a large, faceted gemstone thought to be either an aquamarine or blue topaz but not tested. The brooch comprises two narrow gold bars with rounded ends which flare in the middle to encompass a beautifully-sparkling, oval faceted stone flanked on either side by a curlicue detail. The reverse of the brooch has a small hole to attach a safety chain. The pin, which is slightly bent, is stainless steel and fastens with a traditional C-shaped clasp. The brooch is stamped for 9ct gold and the maker's marks of E.P. This could be the maker's marks for Edward Pairpoint, London which was founded in 1848 until 1879, when it became Pairpoint Brothers; the name which continues until the 1930’s. Alternatively, it is also similar to the mark of Edwin Page who was based at Hylton Street in Birmingham from 1911- 1925. No matter who crafted this lovely brooch, it is a statement piece, measuring 7cms long and 1cm at the widest point and weighing 4.3g. It would make a lovely bridal gift, (something blue,) or present for someone with an affinity for the colour and period. Sorry, antique box is for display only and is not included in the sale. Brooch will be despatched in an modern card gift box.
