Description: Antique Benares parcel gilt silver enamelled peacock on stand circa 1870. I did some extensive searching for information on this exquisitely done peacock. Ultimately I was only able to find a pair that was sold at Christie's of London in 2011. That particular pair was sold for an equivalent of $6,600 not including the buyer's premium of what I believe was 26%. It too had spotty enamelling loss, as well as at least 2 missing beads. I've included many photos including several with arrows pointing to some of the enamel loss that I noticed. The beak does show some enamel loss that I didn't include arrows for but did take close ups, and the feet as well. The peacock rotates slightly back and forth on the silver stem or branch at the feet. There is a silver gilt bottom with floral motifs, and round enamelled feet. Stands approximately 7 1/4", and weighs 736 grams.
