Buffon's views influenced the next two generations of naturalists, including Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin. This handcoloured engraving is by Guyard after Edouard Travies (1809-c1868). The minute precision of Edouard Travies' work places him with the best of France's scientific artists; his bird drawings are considered to be some of the finest ever produced. Subject: Plate : '1.
