Description: This antique Blue Willow transferware butter dish is a rare find. The small, round pierced insert dish comes with the original cover, the under plate/bowl got broken a couple of years ago. Markings would have been on the underplate, but I would hazard a guess of England or Holland; used for keeping butter or cheese fresh. The ceramic and porcelain material is of high quality and the transferware pattern is traditional 'Blue Willow'. Hand wash only. Based upon other pieces I have, I think this dates between 1850-1899, but hard to pinpoint without the mark. Feel free to enlighten me. The item width is 5.25" for the insert and 4.25" for the cover. This unusual butter dish would make a great addition to any collection. Quite rare, hard to find.
