Antique CURRIER & IVES Civil War 'Battle of MONITOR & MERRIMAC' Ships Lithograph

Description: ORIGINAL 'THE FIRST FIGHT BETWEEN IRON CLAD SHIPS OF WAR - TERRIFIC COMBAT BETWEEN THE "MONITOR" 2 GUNS & "MERRIMAC" 10 GUNS. IN HAMPTON ROADS, MARCH 9TH 1862 IN WHICH THE LITTLE MONITOR WHIPPED THE MERRIMAC AND THE WHOLE SCHOOL FO REBEL STEAMERS' CURRIER & IVES LITHOGRAPH This is a wonderful original. I recently acquired a large collection of Currier & Ives prints and have slowly been processing them. I have sold hundreds of Curriers over the last 2 decades and I know that the Civil War examples are highly collected so I figured I would start with listing this one. From the research I have done, this one might be one of the rarest Civil War Currier & Ives prints I have come across. There is a large version of this lithograph and a small folio edition. This one is the small example which I have only found a few examples having sold. Image measures 7 3/4 x 12 3/4 inches on sheet measuring 10 x 14 inches. It is in very good condition with just some consistent toning and a few small spots of inconsistent toning. Perhaps some remnants of a water staining that you can see on the back of the sheet. Great original hand coloring. The print is in the original frame that shows some veneer loss. The wood backing was replaced with cardboard. Frame measures 12 1/2 x 16 1/2 inches.
