Description: Great 1850s daguerreotype of a family in its original push-button leather case that measures 7.75" x 6.5" when closed. This was purchased in Weaverville, North Carolina and was out of the P.L. Leake Bernhardt estate, but the family is not identified. Dag is behind cardboard and foil mat and it appears that the original seals have never been removed.. they are mostly still sealed. The underside of the glass needs a good cleaning but there is no obvious damage to the image.. there are possible rub marks from the mat directly to the left of the boy on the left's head, but this could easily be tarnish/haze.. the mat itself is stable, not sliding around, so I believe that tarnish/haze is most probable, but I wanted to mention it. The vertical line directly left of the left boy's shoulder is definitely tarnish, not a scratch. This image should clean up very nicely if you wanted to remove the seals and wipe off the underside of the glass. Case has light leather wear but is overall in very nice antique condition, complete with fully functional clasp. Boxed shipping
