Description: Here is a late nineteenth-century version of an eighteenth-century Derby figure. He represents matrimony or marriage, and would have been paired with a woman who was holding a bird cage. He has numerous breaks to the flowers, but the branches are all there. Somebody who is handy with paints could color the remaining stumps and bring some of the bygone luster back to this fellow. The white holder on his left originally supported a candle nozzle. It could be removed or perhaps painted green so it's less noticeable, or you could add a spare brass nozzle from ebay. There are some firing cracks that are original. Also chips to the leaves, as usual. The figure of the man himself is missing the flowers he held in his right hand but is otherwise in good condition. He is impressive in size, at eight and three-quarters inches tall. Some matching paint to the edges here and there would do wonders for him. Ref F496
