Description: Antique Elson Glass Dewdrop Ruffled Edge Hobnail Butter Cheese Lid Cover 6" EAPG This gorgeous ruffled hobnail handled lid will make a gorgeous addition to your collection. It was made by Elson Glass Co which operated under that name from 1882 to 1893 when it became the West Virginia Glass Co. I believe the pattern is called 'Ruffled Edge Hobnail' and is the style of EAPG / Victorian antique glass that influenced companies such as Fenton that later produced their own hobnail opalescent glass patterns. It would have originally sat on top of a matching glass plate and was used for serving butter or cheese. It does have some wear due to it's age so please read complete details below and review photos closely for condition. Thank you and enjoy! Measures approximately 3.5" x 6" x 6"Approximate weight is 13 ozCondition: In antique pre-owned condition with wear including but not limited to light abrasions/scratches/scuffs on the surface of the glass, some fine chipping on the bottom of the ruffled edge which is a bit rough from where it sat on the base plate, some fine chips/dings on the hobnail points and surface of the sides of the form, striations/waves/lines in the glass that are original to the piece, in addition to dirt, dust, grime, fingerprints, lent, patina, dulling, fading, & stains. In my opinion, the wear/issues are easily offset by the rarity of piece and it's overall significance in the development and styling of factory glass in the US.
