Description: Very Large Antique French Hand-Wrought Iron Lock & Forged Key, Surface Mount Deadbolt and Latch Body measures 8 1/2 by 6 by 1 3/8 inches (including the extra lip at the door edge it is 2 1/4 inches thick). The key is 7 inches long. The lock works as it should. Their double deadbolt is key operated from either side. From the inside of the door (the side the lock is mounted to), the key will also retract the latch--so if the door is locked, front he inside, you can use the key to unlock it and retract the latch to open the oor. If the deadbolt is not engaged, you can use the hand knob to retract the latch. We do not find a maker's mark on the lock. One internal machine screw has been replaced--you can just see one-half of its head at the lower left of the image of the inside of the lock. Functioning locks with their key of this scale are getting very hard to find.
