Description: Antique French Religious Monstrance Gilt Sterling Silver with Luna Late 19th C DESCRIPTION Gilded sun monstrance, embossed and chased silver. Rectangular pyramidal base rests on 4 feet in the shape of lion's paws and images of angel heads. On the faces: the Mystic Lamb lying on a radiant background and the Trinitarian Triangle in a cloud on the reverse, on the side faces: bunches of grapes. The lower part of the base is decorated all around with acanthus leaves, cabochons, volutes on an amati background. The shaft, screwed onto the pedestal, is composed in the upper part of a sheaf of wheat and bunches of grapes joined by a ring and a knot decorated with two cherub heads in the round and vines. The glory is made up of embossed and cut-out rays of light, in its center a lunette surrounded by heart-shaped rays with a hinged portico on the back face, clouds on a guilloche background decorated with cherub heads. Above rises a flowery Latin cross in vermeil. This monstrance was made by the Parisian goldsmith A. Brigaud. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmarks Height: 55.3 cm / 21.65 inches. Length: 28 cm / 11.02 inches. Base: 17.5 X 12.5 cm / 6.69 x 4.72 inches. Weight: 740 grams. Condition : Beautiful original gilding perfectly preserved, without damage on the entire monstrance. WITH a Luna in gilded silver./ missing the end of the stem / NOTE : a radius has been repaired.
