Antique Georgian -Victorian Tiara diamonds gold silver Spanish (7453)

Description: Antique Georgian - Victorian tiara. Diamonds, gold, silver and metal. Made in Spain, Iberian Peninsula early 19th century with later frame. Measurements: Weight is 87.7 grams. Approximately 5.23ct rose cut diamonds. Note: antique diamonds do not conform to modern formulae, so the measurement is approximate and should be seen as a guide or suggestion of magnitude. Description : Asymmetric spray of flowers and foliage. Big and bold, entirely set with rosecut diamonds of varying sizes. The larges are very significant in appearance. The flowers meander across the head, curving in a very naturalistic manner. As was the custom until the 20th century, diamonds are set in silver. The back of the jewel is in gold. It is extremely secure and sits beautifully on the head (unlike many tiaras that have strange angles and are difficult to arrange). Marks and Metal: No marks as is to be expected of jewelry from this period. A thick wash of gold (tested 14k) was placed over the silver front. The mount of the tiara is also silver. Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. THE STORY: Dating antique jewelry is not always clear or precise. Judging from the workmanship, cuts of the diamonds and style of the tiara, it appears to date to the Georgian era, but it could be later (hence Georgian - Victorian). As mentioned, the frame is later. We found paintings with similar asymmetric diamond tiaras in Spanish paintings - from a very early period to the wonderful painting of Francisco Goya.
