Hammered Sterling Silver body, wooden handle German sterling silver coffee pot - late 19th century, mark of GEORG ROTH & CO. This pot was made in Hanau, Germany, a center of 19th century silver making. Uniquely, the base of the handle is decorated with a heart-shaped relief about an inch high (see the second picture). The stylized eagle with the crown is a mark of Georg Roth & Co. You can see more about the registered marks from the website ’silver collection.it under the section dedicated to Germany. In fact, Hanau silversmiths were known to use ‘pseudo-French’ makers marks to add cachet to their items. 'Pyriform coffee-pot resting on three ferial feet, side handle and hinged lid. Hallmarked with the hallmarks in use in Hanau, silversmith Georg Roth & Co. (Hanauer Silberwaren-Manufaktur), founded in 1891.' Approximately 8” high, approximately 8” wide including handle. The coffee pot was purchased as a wedding gift in Italy in 1999 for 2915 euros from Antichita’ Alberto Cremonesi, via Brescia, 10, Bagnolo Mello, Brescia, 25201, Italy.
