Size: Image size 7 1/4" x 5 3/4" (185mm x 143mm) Framed: 11" x 8 3/4" (275mm x 220mm) Well-preserved clear colors. In very good condition. Recently framed in an antique wooden frame with silver gilt. Some signs of age and wear, minor abrassions at the corners. Overall in good condition for its age. Very decorative and of very high quality. See photos. A beautiful and vivid work. From the inside of the South wing of the castle Kondinghus, in the Danish town Kolding, in mainland Jutland, that burned in 1810. It pictures the remains of an old fireplace in the basement, and walls and windows in several floors. A finely detailed work of art, of historical interest. The gouache has some resemblance to the works of Danish Golden Age artist Thorald Laessoe (1816-1878) However, it is more likely one of the better works byPeter Toft Petersen (1825-1901). Danish listed artist.Peter Toft Petersen moved from Denmark to the US, where he worked as a whaler. Later he participated in the American-Mexican war. He became very recognized for his works, with motifs from his many travels. He is represented at the museum of Kondinghus. Enjoy.
